The Muslims Feast ( Eid )

Eid is a Muslims feast, and how Muslims celebrate their Feast ( Eid ). First, the parents buy new clothes for their children, sometimes some of them buy the clothes before Ramadan starts and other people buy the clothes in the last days of Ramadan. Also, they buy desserts. All women clean their houses well at the last days of Ramadan. Most women help their mother in law in cleaning their houses also in working specially in baking. They always make biscuits and cakes of  feast ( Eid ). However, at 8:30 am in the first day of  feast ( Eid ) all Muslims pray El Eid. After that they go back home and they eat biscuits and cake of Eid. All people say to each other happy feast ( Eid ). In that day the relatives visit each other like uncles and aunts, give their nephews money as we called it Edia to buy any thing that they want. Most of the children buy toys, balls,......etc. And most people are going to cinemas and some of them take their family and go to parks to play with their children to enjoy the days of feast ( Eid ). This is a general celebration in Egypt.

However, for us here my father and my mother tried to give us the same sense as in Egypt. My mother made special chips and biscuits. Also, I helped my mother in doing the desserts and also in cleaning the house because I don't have sisters . In the first day of Eid my father took us to pray El Eid in the mosque at 7:30 am. When we came back home, we took our breakfast. My dad invited his friend's and his family to talk his lunch with us but I was not with them because I had a listening and speaking class. However, after returning me, my dad took us and his friends and we went to the beach in West Haven. Finally, I just want to say that I did not feel the same sense as in Egypt and I hope that I was in Egypt during these days to be with my friends.

People learn from their mistakes.

I believe in people learning from their mistakes. A lot of people I know, have made mistakes, learned from them, and tried their best not to do that mistake again. I know this does not happen for all people, but this happens to most people I know. If I did a chart of how many people learn from their mistakes, and how many people don’t, I bet there would be way more people on the side of those who learn from their mistakes.

One of my examples I could use to prove my belief is when I was four years old and I cut myself with a knife. First, I was watching my mom while she was cooking dinner. She was cutting some potatoes into little pieces for a part of our dinner. She put the potatoes into a pan while I was behind her. I don’t know why, but since I was only three and a half years old, and, I did not know what a knife was and what to use it for, I got the knife and slid my finger along the sharp side of the knife. I cut myself very badly that day. I felt bad because of my finger. But I made a mistake and I learned never to play with knives. I also tried my best not to cut myself again.

Most people I know have learned from their mistakes. Like I said, this does not happen to a lot of people, but this happens to most people. So, I believe that people learn from their mistakes.

the Egyption revolution

I want to talk about the biggest issue in Egypt. I want to talk about my country. It's one of the best countries in the world. It was and is still the heart of Arab Nations. It is quiet all the year. Many tourists come to see the great pharaohs and the pyramids. Egypt has about two-thirds of the monuments of the world.

I want to talk about a big issue in Egypt. On January,25, 2011, the youth rebelled against the president and his government because of the injustice, the unemployment and the rising prices. They found that they could not with this live. They began to make groups in Facebook to make a revolution to stop everything bad and to take their own freedom. They had already did their own revolution and they succeeded in that but a lot of people died. Also, a lot of people got hurt during this revolution. After that the young people did not feel safe and the economy began to collapse. Many employees protested and had sit-ins against the government, most factories were closed. Also, the unemployment increased and many workers could not find any work to feed their children. Most people said that the old treatment is better than these days.

In my opinion, the best way to solve these problems is that the people in Egypt must choose a president who can achieve their dreams. The parliament must force to make some amendments for laws to achieve the equality between the people. The people must help the president to stop the sit-ins and the strikes to return back and to become better than before because the president can not do every thing by him self. The people must help the president to improve the economy, the tourism, and equal rights. Also, everyone must take his work seriously and work hard. In this way Egypt can return and it will be better than before. I think that is the best solution to resolve that problem to move forward.

Three things I have learned in my life

The first lesson that I have learned in my life is "Never trust anyone" because if you tell a secret to someone, you don't know what he is going to do with this secret behind your back. I learned that because 2 years ago I told a secret to my friend. He told this secret to the people that I don't want them to know that secret. And I got in trouble because these people know the secret. Also, you are not sure whether he will say this to other people or not, so you will be worried about that. I think you should keep your secrets to your self, it's the best solution to save yourself.

The second lesson that I have learned is "Don't judge anyone you don't know by his cover because you don't know him well." I learned that because I judged someone I do not know well. I thought that he is a bad person but when I talked with him I changed my idea about that person because he is a good person. After that he became one of my best friends and I missed him a lot. You must know the person  first and then you can judge him. I think that judging a person not define who they are, it defines who you are.

The third lesson that I have learned is "Nobody is perfect because nobody has not made mistakes." Every living creature is only an approximation of an ideal. I learned that because I have never met someone perfect.

Finally, I want to say that nobody in the world is perfect and judging people that you don't know them it is such a stupid thing and also it defines who you are. However, I think everybody learnt a lot from his life.

the park description

Assignment: choose a public place around Yale campus and describe what you see.

I was sitting in front of the building on the bench in nice weather and it was sunny and the grass was little bit wet, and there were beautiful green trees with nice wet branches that dropped water from them. And the view of the dew drops when they dropped ofthe branches was very nice. Also, you cannot imagine how beautiful was this view. Also, I imagined  that I was in paradise. I saw a big group of students with their teacher playing on the grass and there were very many students in that group And I think they were coming from the library because they came from the library direction. Also, I saw two students, a girl and boy, sitting together on the bench and I think they were doing their work together on the laptop because they were discussing their work and I think they had a project together. Also i saw nice man who was walking with his dog and the dog was so big and it had white hair and the dog was so nice and suddenly the dog wanted to play with me and the dog played with me and in that moment I hope that dog was mine because he was one of the most beautiful dogs that I have seen in my life.

Yale Art Gallery

Assignment: Go to the Yale Art Gallery, find a work of art that speaks to you then tell its story.

One day someone provoked the people, especially the youth, against injustice, tyranny, poverty and ignorance. They made a revolution against the king who exploited the authority instead of serving the people who chose him to achieve their dreams and provide a decent life. This king was unfair because he and his sons lived in great palaces and other people lived in old houses and tents. The electricity was very bad and every thing was very expensive. The people could not live a decent life. most of youth did not have work to do, so there were a lot of crimes committed. Some employers took brides to ease the procedures for the money because their wages were very low and they couldn't pay the lease and feed their children. This king was not interested in learning, so the ignorance increased and diseases also. The hospitals were very bad in their services so a lot of patients died in these hospitals because there was no service. All these things made the people revolt against this king, especially when he tried to give the authority to his son who would control as his father. So the leader of this revolution led the youth to the palace and overcame this king and his associates. They punished them for all their crimes which they committed against the people and the people put them in jail. The people considered who should become king so they decided that the leader of this revolution should be the king so they chose him as a king because he saved their life from that king. When he became a king, he made a better life for these people and they lived in a freedom. The people decided to make a statue for him and they made that statue and then they put that statue in a museum to save it.

Scavenger Hunt

Assignment: Tell the story of your group's scavenger hunt.

We were on  College Street, hesitating which place we should go. “See! Shuttle bus!” We just ran to the shuttle bus like a hungry tiger hunting for the prey. When we jumped off the bus, the Phelps gate was waiting there to embrace us. How lucky we were!

We were trying all the directions to the Art Gallery until we got a glimpse of it just as we turning  the corner. We were jogging quickly towards it just like children who finally found the candy store. There was already a team there which added to our anxiety. The expression on their faces was surely mixed as the door hadn’t opened yet. Finally, they decided to go but not us. We were waiting heart beat accelerated as the time was running so fast until suddenly we heard a click of the door.” It opened!” we shouted.  The other team had already gone further away “Come back!” we called out before we hurriedly went in.

When we came out the gym. “It’s 10:30, my god, we’ll be late” Henry shouted. “Let’s go” Mohammed said and led us running to the classroom. We rushed in at an unbelievable speed and eventually arrived in the classroom in 10:36. It was also a good fortune that we were not the last team.

Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety percent perspiration. And to be successful in an adventure, the luck is very important. What a fantastic adventure!

The 4th of July weekend

This weekend was special for me because usually I spend my weekend with my friends playing soccer, but this weekend was special and different because there were two events that came together. The first one was my brothers were coming from Egypt and the second one was Ramadan. Ramadan is the month that Muslims should be fasting everyday from 3:40 am to 8:30 pm. My dad took a rest from his work for two days, Saturday and SundayOn Saturday my brothers would arrive at 4:30 pm so my father found the opportunity to take us to see New York before my brothers come, and my dad's friend came with us. He took us by car and we were walking about one hour to see New York. Really it is a beautiful city and it is better than New Haven. However, after that he took us to Arabic restaurants and we ate one of the most  delicious Arabic foods that I love. It was kabab and kofta (a kind of meat) and it was very delicious, you can't imagine its taste. However, my dad wanted to stay but he could not because the plane  would arrive at 4:30 pm and the time was 4 o'clock so we had to leave to go to the airport. When we arrived at the airport, we were waiting for my brothers and after they finished their procedures, they came out and when I saw them I hugged them strongly because I hadn't seen them for one year, and then we put the bags in the car to leave for home. During the way we were talking and I asked them about our family and my friends and if every thing was OK. We arrived home around 8 o'clock and then we took our lunch and we slept because we were so tired.

Sunday was the first day of Ramadan so we got up about 2 o'clock am to take our Sahoor ( lunch before fasting ) and then we slept again. After that we woke up approximately 1 o'clock pm and and I went with my brother to down town New Haven and we sat on the Green around 1 hour and then we took the bus to go home. After that we went to West Haven to the beach around 6 o'clock and we arrived home about 7:30 pm and my mom prepared our breakfast and we ate it at 8:30 pm. My mom made for us Eastern desserts ( konafa and katayf ). Finally, It was a really good weekend because that is the first weekend I enjoyed for a long time because I was with my brothers and I had not seen them for a long time- about one year, and I love my brothers and I missed them too much so that is why I enjoyed this weekend because I was with my brothers and my family.

                                                   this is my brother Mahmoud

The first impression of America

I'd like to say I have been in the United States (New Haven) about one year ago now, but I remember my first impression when came here. It was ironic because I felt happy and sad. It was sad because I left my country, my roots, my friends, and my family. But I was so happy because I heard a lot about United States that it is a great country. However, when i landed in United States in JFK airport i felt that anxious because I don't know the place because it was the first time that I came here but immediately this feeling disappeared because the staff of the airport was so nice and ease procedures to us and also to the whole passengers.

when I got out the airport I saw skyscrapers, nice architecture, beautiful weather, wide routes, and everything was nice. It is nearly looks like the European Style. I found friendly people because they were helpful and they were smiling and said "hi". Also, the people helped us a lot without bad feeling. Really I like the people here in the United States. The image that I took when I came here was a beautiful image because when I came here I saw beautiful people, nice weather because it was showering when I came, and nice views. The food was so nice because I was in a hotel in the first days and really I liked the American food  that I ate. I think that I will achieve my all dreams in this country because everything here is helpful to achieve my dream. Finally, I like the United States so far and I hope that I still like it.

childhood memory

As we all know that the childhood has a great impact on the human life, its considered the reference which the man return to it when he grows. Do you imagine that the plant can not grow without the root, the same thing, there is no future without past. the man always remember his memories when he grows and tell these things to his children especially if it was happy memory. i have many happy memories for example when i was child my parents tried to make me and my brothers to enjoy with our childhood.

When i decided to think about my childhood immediately i found one event that i can not forget in whole life. When i was 8 years old, i was on the trip with my family and  my friends in the pyramids at Giza. When i was there, me and my friends rode camels and horses. my dad told us that we should play near them because the place was very crowded with people from everywhere, but we did not listen their speech. We lost the way. However, we wanted to see the mummies that inside the pyramids. We tried to enter the pyramid, but during out entering the pyramid, we could not breath because there is no air in the pyramid so some of us faint. some people saw us and they called the ambulance and woke up us. My dad told us we should obey their speech to be in safe. Also, my dad knew that there is no air in the pyramid and also he knew that we could not enter the pyramids because we are 8 years old and there was a rule that said the age should be at least 16 years old so we can not enter the pyramids. However, this event was one of my best events in my whole life because it was really a good trip because it was the first time for me to see pyramids, the sphinx and the museum. Also, i learnt from this event and this trip to obey my parents.

However, i'd like to say that any events that in your childhood is part of what is your character is now and everything that you did in your childhood will effect you in your life and your future. Also, that event was one of my best events in whole life and i can not forget it because it was one of  my best trip i have seen in my whole life.
